Competition Rules

This document defines the rules and procedures for the Literary, Music and Dance Competition.  All Competitors/Participants must read this document prior to competing in any of the categories available for this year’s competition.

Definitions

The following terms are used in the context of the Literary, Music and Dance Competition:

Entrant: The term “Entrant(s)” in the context of the Literary, Music and Dance Competition refers to an individual, a group or team, interested in participating in the competition but has not been registered as qualified to compete.  Entrants must by regulations, be, from a recognized secondary school within the Niger Delta region and each participating individual must be within the class range of JSS3 to SSS1.  Special consideration may be made in certain cases.  Entrants must be accompanied by a teacher who is regarded as a Coordinator. 

Participant/Competitor: The term “Participant(s)” in the context of the Literary, Music and Dance Competition refers to entrants who have been registered as qualified to participate in any of the three available categories of the competition.

 Team: The term “Team” in the context of the Literary, Music and Dance Competition means two or more participants in the competition as cooperative unit.  Some categories of the competition can only be undertaken by a team.

 Captain: The term “Captain” in the context of the Literary, Music and Dance competition refers to the Student leader, leading a delegate of participants.  In cases where a school presents only one participant, the participant automatically is recognized as the captain.

 Coordinator: The term “Coordinator” in the context of the Literary, Music and Dance Competition refers to a teacher coordinating the participants from a representative school.  The regulation of the competition requires that the Coordinator be a teacher from the arts department of the participating school.

Registration and Qualification Standards

To compete in the Literary, Music and Dance Competition, all entrants must meet the following standards to be registered as qualified participants:

v  Registration for the 2008 edition of the Literary, Music and Dance competition is strictly by invitation. Expect stated otherwise, all participating school must be within a selected pool of secondary schools drawn from the Niger Delta region.

  v  The organizers reserve the exclusive right, to select at their own discretion, based on specific competing standards, schools that would be allowed to compete in this year’s edition of the Literary Music and Dance Competition and in future editions of the event.

  v  All registered entrants must be students, still within a secondary school from the Niger Delta region. Except stated otherwise, all participants must be within a class range of JSS3 and SSS3.

  v  All participating school must fill out the competition entry form, found inside the invitation package.  This form is to be filled by the coordinator who is expected to provide all the relevant information required by the organizers.

  v  Competition entry forms must be filled using the guidelines provided in the package.  All participants and coordinators must read through the entire guidelines before completing the application form.  Information provided in the application form is expected to be accurate in all areas.

  v  Competition entry forms must be submitted for processing no later than 31st May. There will be no exceptions.  Applications, along with competition entries, must be sent to the stated address in this document no later than the stipulated deadline.  Applications received after the stipulated deadline will not be registered for the competition.

  v  Participating schools will be allowed to compete in two categories only.  Schools are advised to focus on categories in which their students have an advantage within the period of time given.  Each category for the competition follows a set of guidelines and rules which are stated in the following section.
