Guidelines

Eligibility

v  Participating schools must be within the Niger Delta

v  Entrants must be students within the class range of JSS3 and SSS3

Categories

1.       Short Play

2.       Poetry

3.       Music Composition

4.       Dance

Procedure

v  A notice of intention to participate should be sent via email to kickthehabit@theearthmydaughter.com no later than May 15th 2008. State the two (2) categories your school will be participating in.

Submissions

v  Participating schools can only compete in two (2) categories only

v  Each Student may submit one entry per category

v  An Entry Form must accompany each submission

v  Two copies of each work must be submitted

v  Author’s name to appear on the entry form only

v  Author’s name must not appear on work

v  Separate Entry Form is required for each submission

v  All entries must include a Cover Page with the following information – (i) Name of School (ii) Name of Author (iii) Synopsis of Work (iv) Source of Inspiration

v  The Captain of each team should be shown by preceding his or her name with the title ‘Captain’

In addition:

v  Short Play

o   Entries can be by individuals or teams

v  Poetry

o   Entries should be works of individuals and not teams

o   Each Student may submit one entry only

o   Each School is allow a maximum of four (4) entries

v  Music Composition

o   Entries can be by individuals or teams no larger than 10 persons

o   Your entry may be an Acappella or an Instrumental

o   Each Entry must have an element of traditional African Music

o   Musical Instruments should be selected from instruments played within their school. However, entrants who are skilled in using computer software to arrange and compose musical pieces are free to explore such means under the supervision of their coordinator

o   Each entry should be inspired by one or more of the issues surrounding Climate Change

v  Dance

o   Entries can be individual or teams no larger than four persons

o   Your entry must have an element of traditional African Dance

o   Each entry should be inspired by one or more of the issues surrounding Climate Change

Originality

v  All works must be original and unpublished.

Length

v  Short Play

o   Each piece should be a One Act Play

o   Running time should be no more than 20 minutes with a minimum 2 actors and maximum 10

v  Poetry

o   A maximum of 1,000 words or 10-50 lines

v  Music Composition

o   Each piece should be about 2 minutes and not more than 5 minutes in length

o   Each entry should be score for a maximum of 10 players

v  Dance

o   Each dance ensemble should be about 3 minutes and not more than 6 minutes in length

Format

Entries must be typed, single spaced and font size should be 12pt in either Courier or Times New Roman

 

In addition:

v  Short Play

o   Entries must be securely bound and have their pages numbered

v  Music Composition

o   The lyrics for each Acappella should be supplied

o   Where possible the score, in musical notation of all instrumental should also be supplied

o   In addition to the lyrics or score, the final composition should be submitted in the form of an audio recording using a CD-ROM / DVD / MiniDisc / Cassette

v  Dance

o   The synopsis of the dance ensemble should be supplied

o   Any music can be used as long as it has an element of African traditional music

o   Entries should be videoed and sent on a CD-ROM / DVD / MiniDisc / VHS Cassette

Deadline

v  All applications must be received at the organiser’s office in Port Harcourt on or before May 31st 2008 by 4.00PM

v  Entries will not be returned
